Some studies indicate that exercise may increase life expectancy and the overall quality of life. Physical fitness Individuals can increase fitness following increases in physical activity levels. Children who have more proficient motor skills early on are more inclined to being physically active, and thus tend to perform well in sports and have better fitness levels. Early motor proficiency has a positive correlation to childhood physical activity and fitness levels, while less proficiency in motor skills results in a tendency to partake in a more sedentary lifestyle. Cardiovascular fitness The beneficial effect of exercise on the cardiovascular system is well documented. There is a direct correlation between physical inactivity and cardiovascular mortality, and physical inactivity is an independent risk factor for the development of coronary artery disease.

My class were studying a topic on the organisation of sport in the UK and were struggling to get to grips with all of the various organisational bodies and their roles. I therefore decided to have an interim revision session with a difference and used speed dating as the vehicle for this. I created seven questions based on what they had already learnt.
As each student came into the class, they were given one question each. They were asked to sit at a table with others who had the same question.

Hebb published ideas about unsupervised learning. The following decades brought shallow unsupervised NNs and supervised NNs e. Early supervised NNs were essentially variants of linear regressors dating back two centuries Gauss, Legendre. Deep Learning networks originated in the s when Ivakhnenko and Lapa published the first general, working learning algorithm for supervised deep feedforward multilayer perceptrons.
Their units had polynomial activation functions combining additions and multiplications in Kolmogorov-Gabor polynomials. Ivakhnenko already described a deep network with 8 layers trained by the “Group Method of Data Handling,” still popular in the new millennium. Given a training set of input vectors with corresponding target output vectors, layers are incrementally grown and trained by regression analysis, then pruned with the help of a separate validation set, where regularisation is used to weed out superfluous units.
The numbers of layers and units per layer can be learned in problem-dependent fashion. Many later non-neural methods of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning also learn more and more abstract, hierarchical data representations. For example, syntactic pattern recognition methods Fu, such as grammar induction discover hierarchies of formal rules to model observations.

One of the most powerful things I can do for my students is work to promote reading for fun and helping students find books that they will enjoy.
University of North Florida Abstract Teaching students about theorists, and conveying their importance, is difficult. Students find learning about theories dry, may not understand their true importance in our science, and fail to see the application to everyday topics. Professors have attempted to highlight the relevance of theories, and improve student engagement, through activate learning techniques such as using pop music, Harry Potter, and Dr.
Seuss Ahlkvist, ; Fields, ; Lenning, The following poster outlines my attempt to help students engage with theorists of human development through an active learning technique. As a new faculty member, I naively assigned an essay that required students to describe one theorist and explain how he was different than, and similar to, another theorist. I initially believed if I taught the students about the individual theorists, then they would be able to compare and contrasts their beliefs, critiques, and applied benefits on their own.
Reflecting on how I could change my teaching strategies helped me to construct an activity that provides students direct practice in these expectations.

Speed dating involves men and women meeting in a room and finding out as much as they can about possible partners in three minutes. It’s proving very popular with Britain’s young people who find that they haven’t got the time to meet that special one. At a speed dating event you are given three minutes to talk, one on one, with a member of the opposite sex. Then a bell is rung and you move to another person and start chatting again.
By the end of the evening you will have spoken with up to twenty men or women! If, by the end of a conversation, you fancy the person or would like to see them again, you write it down on a card. Then, if the other person also fancies you, the organisers will contact you with their details. But is three minutes long enough to make an impression and work out if you want to see someone again?
Research suggests that chemistry can be felt within the first thirty seconds of meeting someone, and that is what speed dating is all about, knowing quickly if you are going to like someone. And what about romance?

Men and women are rotated to meet each other over a series of short “dates” usually lasting from three to eight minutes depending on the organization running the event. At the end of each interval, the organizer rings a bell, clinks a glass, or blows a whistle to signal the participants to move on to the next date.
At the end of the event participants submit to the organizers a list of who they would like to provide their contact information to. If there is a match, contact information is forwarded to both parties. Contact information cannot be traded during the initial meeting, in order to reduce pressure to accept or reject a suitor to his or her face.

Email Abstract It is often difficult for educators to teach a kinesiology and applied anatomy KAA course due to the vast amount of information that students are required to learn. The experimental group class A played the game at two time points throughout the semester after a series of lectures focusing on the body’s muscles. A control group class B from another section of the KAA course still received the series of lectures but did not play the games throughout the semester.
A postgame questionnaire given to class A revealed the following scores: Overall, the game was well received by class A. When evaluating outcome scores of final grades between the two groups, class A improved final grades by 5. The results show that an interactive game may contribute to improved final grades in a KAA course and could be an alternative means of disseminating kinesiology information.
These barriers may include 1 the vast amount of material that must be covered, 2 the student’s time constraints, 3 the increased use of technology-based programs that may not meet the learning needs of all students, and 4 the fact that students lose sight of the need to immerse themselves in the material instead of just memorizing it. It can be challenging to present muscle properties in a way that is interesting and less repetitious. Memorizing muscles and their functions encompasses a large amount of difficult information with a limited number of ways in which to relay that information.
In addition to learning the names of muscles and their functions, students need to understand the impact of muscle contraction on functional movement.

Hodes EdD The panel discussion is a valuable, time-tested teaching technique used in classrooms of all types to help students understand the experiences of a particular group of people. My previous experiences facilitating successful panel discussions led me to believe that a panel would be a good method to use here. In an effort to create a panel that represented a diversity of functions and practitioners, I ended up with too many panelists and, consequently, an ineffective exercise.
As the instructor and panel moderator, one has to manage the questions from the class as well as rein in the excitement and enthusiasm of the panel participants to impart their wisdom. A large panel makes that difficult. I asked the class for feedback following the inclusion of two panel discussions.
